The Thanksgiving Ritual

A Rite of Gratitude to Zeus and the Gods

There are many times in the life of a Zevist when the Gods answer a prayer, grant a blessing, or intervene on our behalf in ways both seen and unseen. It is important that we acknowledge these gifts. Gratitude is not weakness. It is the recognition of a relationship that is real and reciprocal. The Gods give, and we give in return. This is the Law of Ma'at: what is received is acknowledged, and what is given returns.

The Rite

Open the ritual with the Invocation:

ΕΝ ΟΝΟΜΑΤΙ ΤΟΥ ΖΕΒ ΥΨΙΣΤΟΥ, ΠΑΤΡΟΣ ΘΕΩΝ ΤΕ ΚΑΙ ΑΝΘΡΩΠΩΝ
En Onomati tou Zev Hypsistou, Patros Theon te kai Anthropon

ॐ ज़ेव् देवदेवाय सत्याय नमः
Om Zev Devadevaaya Satyaaya Namah

Read your written thanksgiving aloud. Speak directly to Zeus, or to the specific God or Daemon who helped you. Name the blessing. Name the help you received. Do not be vague. The Gods gave something specific; your thanks should be specific in return.

Zeus [or name of God/Daemon], I give You thanks.

You heard my prayer concerning [state the matter]. You answered. You granted [state the blessing]. I acknowledge this gift. I acknowledge Your power, Your care, and Your presence in my life.

I offer this libation in gratitude. What You have given me, I receive with honor. What I owe You in return, I will fulfill through my work, my devotion, and my advancement on the Path.

Pour the libation upon the earth (or into a bowl of soil if indoors).

Burn the written thanksgiving in the candle flame, releasing the energy of your gratitude into the astral world.

Sit in meditation. Feel the gratitude in your body. Let it fill you. This energy, the energy of genuine thankfulness, is itself an offering that the Gods value.

Close with:

Praised be Zeus, the God of Gods, the Unconquered and Greatest, Father of Gods and Men, King of the Immortals!

Beyond Words: The True Thanksgiving

Words of gratitude are the beginning. But the truest thanksgiving is action. When the Gods have helped you, repay them by advancing on the Path: meditate consistently, empower your soul, educate others about the truth, contribute to the community, and live a life that honors the Gods through its quality and its integrity. Zeus values effort over empty praise. Show your gratitude by becoming the person the Gods are helping you become.

If you have energy to spare after meditation or if you are overcharged, you can offer it directly to the Gods. Ask Zeus to send a Daemon to receive the energy and deliver it where the Gods need it most. This is a powerful gesture of reciprocity, and it strengthens the bond between you and the divine powers who guide your path.
