The Timeless Path

by High Priest Zevios Metathronos

The Time Is Now: Join the Gods

Aion, the God of eternity, stands within the turning ring of the zodiac above Olympus while a traveller climbs a path of golden light up from the river of mortal days
The Gods stand outside the wheel of years. You stand inside it, with a measured time to climb the path of light that leads to Them.

The Gods don't count days. Homer calls Them θεοὶ αἰὲν ἐόντες, "the Gods who are forever" (Iliad 1.290). Zeus was King before the first city rose, and He'll be King when the last one has fallen.

You stand inside the wheel of years. Your life has a measure: a set number of mornings, a set number of seasons in which to become what you came here to become.

That's the whole reason for this teaching. The Gods are timeless, and the path to Them is open in every age. Your own time to walk it is now.

Eternal Gods, Counted Days

Time as the Moving Image of Eternity

Plato describes the moment the Creator gave the cosmos its time:

Plato, Timaeus 37d:

«εἰκὼ δ᾽ ἐπενόει κινητόν τινα αἰῶνος ποιῆσαι»

"He planned to make a moving image of eternity."

Eternity rests in the Gods. Time moves through every human life. Every hour you live is a small image of the eternal, placed in your hands to use.

Homer saw how fast it passes: οἵη περ φύλλων γενεὴ τοίη δὲ καὶ ἀνδρῶν, "as is the generation of leaves, so is that of men" (Iliad 6.146). The leaves fall and new ones come, and each leaf has only its own season to catch the sun.

The Weight of a Life

For Everyone Who Carries Too Much

Life is hard, and the Gods know it. The bills come due. The body tires. People you trusted walk away. Loss arrives without asking, and some years feel like a long climb in the dark.

Carrying all this makes you human, and every human who ever reached the Gods carried a load like yours. Herakles carried more, and he still reached Olympus.

Pindar, who sang for the victors at Olympia, spoke to this weight in some of the tenderest lines of Greek poetry:

Pindar, Pythian 8.95-97:

«ἐπάμεροι· τί δέ τις; τί δ᾽ οὔ τις; σκιᾶς ὄναρ ἄνθρωπος. ἀλλ᾽ ὅταν αἴγλα διόσδοτος ἔλθῃ, λαμπρὸν φέγγος ἔπεστιν ἀνδρῶν καὶ μείλιχος αἰών»

"Creatures of a day! What is someone? What is no one? Man is the dream of a shadow. But when the radiance given by Zeus comes, a bright light rests upon men, and their life turns sweet."

Read the turn in the middle. The same short life, the same dream of a shadow, becomes bright and sweet once the radiance of Zeus enters it. The path exists to bring that radiance into your days.

The Key of Keys

What the Path Opens

Most keys open 1 door. Zevism is a key of keys. It opens the locks that have held you for years, and it opens them from the inside, by changing the one who turns the key.

Problems you've carried for a decade start to move. Fears loosen their grip. Strength arrives where there was none. Those who walk the path overcome what they never could have overcome before, because they no longer face it alone or with human strength only.

Key What It Opens
Meditation Power and calm: the capacity of the soul (τὸ δυνατόν) grows, and with it focus, health and endurance
Ethics Φρόνησις and Justice: a life that holds its shape under pressure, and choices you won't regret
Intellect Clarity and learning: a mind that reads the world accurately and sees through every lie
The Occult Forces The powers of Light and Darkness, worked under Ma'at: light to heal, illuminate and build; darkness to protect, bind, banish what attacks you, and renew
The Existential Path A life in service of ὁμοίωσις θεῷ, with direction and purpose in every day
Theurgy Your own intelligence joined to the intelligence of the Gods
Initiation The passage into the Hierarchy and the Family of the Gods

The occult forces deserve a word of their own. Light and Darkness are both real powers, and the initiate learns to work with both. Bound by Ma'at, light illuminates and builds, while darkness protects, dissolves what harms and renews what's worn out. The path trains the hands to hold both without being burned by either.

A hand turns a golden key shaped like a thunderbolt crowned with the feather of Ma'at, and a long corridor of bronze temple doors swings open one after another in waves of light
Zevism is a key of keys. It opens the locks that held a life closed, and each door leads to the next.

Why Now

The Hour Is Yours, and It Passes

Marcus Aurelius, emperor and philosopher, wrote himself this warning:

Marcus Aurelius, Meditations 4.17:

«Μὴ ὡς μύρια μέλλων ἔτη ζῆν. τὸ χρεὼν ἐπήρτηται· ἕως ζῇς, ἕως ἔξεστιν, ἀγαθὸς γενοῦ.»

"Don't live as if you had 10,000 years ahead of you. What must come hangs over you. While you live, while it's in your power, become good."

Epictetus asked the question every seeker has to face: εἰς ποῖον ἔτι χρόνον ἀναβάλλῃ τὸ τῶν βελτίστων ἀξιοῦν σεαυτὸν, "how long will you still put off thinking yourself worthy of the best?" (Enchiridion 51).

"Next year" turns into 10 years without a sound. The Gods will still be there. What matters is whether you'll have used the days you were given. Start now, and every day that follows becomes a day of growth.

Initiation

The Passage Into the Family of the Gods

Initiation is the great threshold of the path. In the ancient world it marked a death and a birth in a single act. The gold tablet of Pelinna greets the initiate:

Gold Tablet of Pelinna:

«νῦν ἔθανες καὶ νῦν ἐγένου, τρισόλβιε, ἄματι τῶιδε.»

"Now you have died and now you have been born, thrice blessed, on this very day."

The old life of wandering alone ends there. A new life begins inside an order. Initiation is a strong passage into the Hierarchy of the Gods: from that day you stand in a line that runs from the ancient initiates, through the priesthood, up to the Gods Themselves.

And it's a passage into a family: Zeus as Father, the Goddesses and Gods as elders and guides, and fellow initiates as brothers and sisters on the same road. No one who enters is a stranger again.

A tablet from Thurii speaks the promise at the end of that road: ὄλβιε καὶ μακαριστέ, θεὸς δ᾽ ἔσηι ἀντὶ βροτοῖο, "happy and blessed one, you shall be a God instead of a mortal." Sophocles sang of those who've seen the rites: ὡς τρισόλβιοι κεῖνοι βροτῶν, οἳ ταῦτα δερχθέντες τέλη μόλωσ᾽ ἐς Ἅιδου, "thrice blessed are those mortals who go down to Hades having seen these rites" (fr. 837 Radt).

A new initiate crowned with myrtle steps through torch-lit temple doors at dawn into the embrace of a family of initiates, while the Olympian Gods above open their arms in welcome
Initiation is a death and a birth in 1 act. The one who crosses the threshold enters the Hierarchy and the Family of the Gods.

Welcome Home

If you've read this far, something in you already knows. The Gods ask for a first step taken in sincerity, and They meet the one who takes it. Perfection comes later, on the road. The first step has a name and a rite: Becoming an Initiate.

The Family is waiting. The torches are lit, the temple doors stand open, and a place is kept for you among Them.

The Gods are timeless. Your time is now. Come home.
