The Commandments of Zeus

author: Temple of Zeus
updated by: High Priest Zevios Metathronos

Zeus dictated the Al Jilwah directly to the Yezidi prophet Sheik Adi ibn Musafir in the 12th century CE. The Al Jilwah (meaning "The Revelation" or "The Effulgence") is among the most important doctrinal texts in Zevism. Its survival is a testimony to the resilience of truth under persecution.

The Yezidi and the Preservation of Truth

The Yezidi people of northern Mesopotamia (modern Iraq, Syria, Turkey) have preserved the worship of Melek Taus, the Peacock Angel, through 74 documented genocides spanning over a thousand years. The Islamic caliphates, the Ottoman Empire, and most recently ISIS in 2014 have attempted to destroy them. They endured because the truth they carried was worth dying for.

The Yezidi oral and written tradition, documented in the 19th century by scholars including Isya Joseph (Devil Worship: The Sacred Books and Traditions of the Yezidiz, 1919) and more recently by Birgül Açikyildiz (The Yezidis: The History of a Community, Culture and Religion, 2014), preserves elements of pre-Islamic Mesopotamian religion that were systematically destroyed everywhere else. The Al Jilwah is the crown of this preservation.

The Al Jilwah belongs to what Zevism calls the Captivity Era: the period during which the original Gods, slandered and rebranded as "demons" by the Abrahamic religions, continued to communicate with their devoted followers. Even when called "Daemons," even when their temples were ash and their names were curses in the mouths of the conquerors, the Gods took whatever form was necessary to reach those who remained faithful. The Al Jilwah is proof that the channel never closed. The Gods adapted their communication to the language and cultural framework available. The eternal teachings of Ma'at persisted through the darkest centuries.

The Commandments

"ALL MY TEACHINGS ARE EASILY APPLICABLE TO ALL TIMES AND ALL CONDITIONS."

"I TEACH AND GUIDE THOSE WHO FOLLOW MY INSTRUCTION."

"I EXERCISE DOMINION OVER ALL CREATURES AND OVER THE AFFAIRS OF ALL WHO ARE UNDER THE PROTECTION OF MY IMAGE. I AM EVER PRESENT TO HELP ALL WHO TRUST IN ME AND CALL UPON ME IN TIME OF NEED."

"I ALLOW EVERYONE TO FOLLOW THE DICTATES OF HIS OWN NATURE, BUT HE THAT OPPOSES ME WILL REGRET IT SORELY."

"NO GOD HAS A RIGHT TO INTERFERE IN MY AFFAIRS AND I HAVE MADE IT AN IMPERATIVE RULE THAT EVERYONE SHALL REFRAIN FROM WORSHIPPING ALL GODS."

"WHEN TEMPTATION COMES, I GIVE MY COVENANT TO HIM THAT TRUSTS IN ME."

"I DO NOT ALLOW FRIENDLY ASSOCIATION WITH OTHER PEOPLE."

"NOR DO I DEPRIVE THEM THAT ARE MY OWN AND THAT OBEY ME OF ANYTHING THAT IS GOOD FOR THEM."

"I APPEAR IN DIVERSE MANNERS TO THOSE WHO ARE FAITHFUL AND UNDER MY COMMAND."

"I LEAD TO THE STRAIGHT PATH WITHOUT A REVEALED BOOK; I DIRECT ARIGHT MY BELOVED AND CHOSEN ONES BY UNSEEN MEANS."

"THREE THINGS ARE AGAINST ME AND I HATE THREE THINGS."

"THOSE WHO KEEP MY SECRETS SHALL RECEIVE THE FULFILLMENT OF MY PROMISES."

"IT IS MY DESIRE THAT ALL MY FOLLOWERS UNITE IN A BOND OF UNITY, LEST THOSE WHO ARE WITHOUT PREVAIL AGAINST THEM."

"REJECT ALL THE TEACHINGS AND SAYINGS OF SUCH AS ARE WITHOUT. I HAVE NOT TAUGHT THESE TEACHINGS, NOR DO THEY PROCEED FROM ME."

"HONOR MY SYMBOL AND IMAGE, FOR THEY REMIND YOU OF ME."

Understanding the Commandments

"I exercise dominion over all creatures and over the affairs of all who are under the protection of my image." Zeus is true to His word. Those who've committed to this path through the Dedication know from lived experience how their lives changed after the commitment. He guides, He directs, He protects. He works with us before we even have to ask. This isn't metaphor. It's the consistent testimony of thousands of practitioners across decades.

"I allow everyone to follow the dictates of his own nature." Zevism doesn't impose a single template on human beings. Your nature is your nature. Zeus asks you to refine it, master it, develop it to its highest expression. This is the opposite of the Abrahamic model, which demands that everyone conform to an external standard of behaviour and punishes deviation. Zeus says: be what you are, and become more.

"I lead to the straight path without a revealed book." This commandment strikes at the root of Abrahamic control. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all centre on a "revealed book" that claims absolute authority. Zeus says: I don't need a book. I communicate directly. Through meditation, through dreams, through signs, through the still voice that arrives in silence. The Abrahamic religions placed a book between humanity and God. Zeus removed the book and said: talk to me. This is the foundation of the Zevist path: a personal, unmediated relationship with the divine.

"It is my desire that all my followers unite in a bond of unity, lest those who are without prevail against them." Unity among Zevists isn't optional. The ancient followers of the Gods were scattered and destroyed precisely because they lacked institutional unity. The Temple of Zeus exists to end that division.

The Connection to Ma'at

The commandments of the Al Jilwah align perfectly with the 42 Laws of Ma'at, the ancient Egyptian ethical framework that predates the Al Jilwah by millennia. Both systems emphasise: truth over deception, knowledge over ignorance, loyalty to the Gods over submission to false authorities, unity among the faithful, and the rejection of the teachings of the enemy.

This continuity is not coincidental. The same Gods who spoke through the Egyptian Ma'at spoke through the Yezidi Al Jilwah. The language changed. The cultural framework adapted. The truth remained constant. Ma'at is the cosmic law. The Al Jilwah is its voice in the Captivity Era. Both say the same thing: align yourself with the Gods, develop your soul, reject Izfet, and become what you were designed to become.

The Family of the Gods embodies these commandments in practice. For the full text of the Al Jilwah, see: The Al Jilwah. For the ethical framework, see: The Laws of Ma'at.
