Homeric Hymn 22 addresses Poseidon as a saviour of ships and asks His aid for voyagers. This supplies an ancient devotional setting for protection and successful passage. The dolphin's own celestial story adds a more particular theme: guidance that brings a relationship into fulfilment and receives an enduring place in the heavens. ^[4]

Ascent from depth to light

The dolphin's leap can be contemplated as a moment when concealed power becomes radiant form. The arc begins within the sea, emerges into the light and returns to the element from which it arose. The symbol also expresses joy as a sign of harmonious movement. A soul need not become rigid in order to become powerful. It can acquire depth without losing brightness and sensitivity without losing direction. The dolphin of Poseidon teaches a spiritual fluency: the ability to receive, to understand, to move and to return, carrying the blessings of the depths into the light of a fully lived existence.
