Zevism: Instructions for New People
author: High Priest Zevios Metathronos
Zevism is the religion of Zeus and the Ancient Gods, and we uphold it as the common spiritual inheritance of all mankind. Its purpose is the growth of the human being: the strengthening of the soul, the cultivation of knowledge, the mastery of character, and the development of personal power under the guidance of the Gods.
We teach that the Gods are Eternal Essences: living Divine intelligences whose existence and powers transcend nations, languages, and historical periods. Peoples across the world have approached Them through different sacred names, symbols, philosophies, and rites. In these traditions, Zevism recognizes a convergence upon the Ancient Gods.
The Temple brings together teachings from Egyptian, Greek, Indian, Babylonian, Roman, Norse, Japanese, and other traditions. Their wisdom has a home here, where their distinct contributions can be studied and understood within our teachings and doctrines.
Whatever your ancestry or nationality, you are welcome to study this inheritance and take part in its continuation. We ask for sincerity, a willingness to learn, and the discipline to put knowledge into practice.
1. Learn Who the Gods Are
Begin with Zeus and the Ancient Gods. Study Their qualities, powers, sacred associations, and the ways in which They guide human development.
This study gives direction to your practice. Learning about wisdom, justice, beauty, courage, and order should gradually influence how you think, what you value, and how you act.
Read patiently. Keep questions as you study, and return to subjects as your understanding develops.
2. Build Character Alongside Power
Spiritual growth and ethical development belong together. As your abilities increase, so does your responsibility for how you use them.
Personality mastery begins with learning to govern your attention, emotions, habits, and decisions. It takes shape in ordinary actions: speaking honestly, keeping your commitments, exercising restraint, facing difficulties with courage, and treating others justly.
Study the Ethics of Zevism, beginning with Life Ethics and the 36 Virtues. Choose a virtue to work on deliberately. Examine your conduct, correct your mistakes, and practise until better choices become established habits.
Our aim is a person capable of using strength with judgment, freedom with responsibility, and knowledge with integrity.
3. Make Your Commitment When You Understand It
After studying the foundations, those who wish to enter Zevism may undertake the Dedication to Zeus and the Ancient Gods.
This is your initiation: a freely chosen commitment to the Gods and to your own spiritual development. Read the instructions carefully and understand the commitment you are making.
Zeus and the Gods call us to develop independence, competence, and wisdom. Devotion carries an expectation of effort: the knowledge you receive must become something you practise.
4. Establish a Daily Meditation Practice
Power meditation is a foundation of Zevist practice. Its purpose is to strengthen the soul, develop its faculties, and increase your capacity to perceive and work with spiritual energy.
After your commitment, begin with the Basic Meditation Program. Use the Meditation section to study the exercises and their purposes.
Set aside a regular time, learn the foundations carefully, and progress at a manageable pace. Keep a record of your practice and questions. Look for growth in concentration, self-command, understanding, and the consistency of your effort.
Meditation and ethics should support each other throughout your development.
5. Develop Your Relationship with the Gods
Prayer, meditation, and ritual are ways of approaching the Gods directly. Zevist prayer involves focused thought, devotion, and the direction of spiritual energy. Our teachings connect the development of spiritual perception and inner communication with sustained meditation.
The Temple’s rituals provide structured practices for devotion and spiritual work. A regular weekly ritual can help newcomers establish continuity in their relationship with the Gods.
There are no required mediators between you and the Gods. Teachers and the community can offer instruction; your relationship with the Divine develops through your own participation.
Personal Freedom and Responsibility
Your consensual adult sexual life is your own. This includes heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, and consensual group relationships, as well as asexuality or choosing to remain sexually inactive. Consent, honesty, and responsibility guide how that freedom is exercised.
Recreational drug use remains an individual decision for which the individual bears responsibility. The Temple strongly discourages it and teaches spiritual development through disciplined practice.
Zevism values the ability to direct your own life. That freedom grows through knowledge, sound judgment, and mastery of your choices.
