Our Goddess: Bastet
author: High Priest Zevios Metathronos
The goddess Bastet is an ancient deity from the Pyramid Texts of Egypt, where she is shown to be the nurse of the Pharaoh. Her cult in Per Bastet (Bubastis, modern day Teil-Basta) was supremely ancient and goes back 5,000 years at the very least. Many times these days She has simply been reduced to being an animal symbol representing cats, but Her functions represent many things outside this like motherhood, purity, condensed power and the ability to combat evil every day. She was very much beloved by the Egyptians as a mother of their civilization.
One God, A Distorted Name
The Great Goddess of Bubastis was maligned and inserted into the medieval corpus of demons as Haagenti, an alchemical being who taught secrets to people. Practitioners often described a friendly and coy essence despite the depraved warping by the mouths of Yehubor. Today at the Temple of Zeus, we restore Her divine name to humanity, and the sistra of Bast shall play once more.
