Formation
- Lay the index fingers flat against each other.
- Clasp the other fingers, their pads resting on the backs of the hands.
- Cross the thumbs, each resting in the hollow of the other hand.
- Leave a small hollow between the hands; seated, point the index fingers to the ground (lying down, toward the feet).
Example Meditation
Sit with the hands relaxed and the index fingers pointing to the ground. Breathe out fully and let tension and spent energy drain downward through the fingers. The seal supports letting go and clears the body and mind for what follows.
Effects
PhysicalΣῶμα
- Elimination. It stimulates elimination through the large intestine, the skin and the lungs.
EmotionalΘυμός
- Release of tension. It releases tension and the negative energy absorbed from others.
IntellectualΝοῦς
- Clearing. Spent energy leaves, which clears the ground for fresh thought.
SoulΨυχή
- Letting go. What is used and finished is given back to the Earth.
AscentἈνάβασις
- Pouring the nectar. In Buddhist images the joined index fingers pour amrita, the nectar of immortality, from a vessel. Release precedes ascent: the soul empties before it is filled.
