Mudras: Beginner

The seals of this level work on the body: the elements, the vital force, the breath, cleansing, the head and the frame. Each one is practised inside an ordinary meditation. The seal helps; the meditation does the work.

Using the Seals

  1. 1

Sit as for any meditation, with the spine straight, and form the seal with both hands unless its page shows another form.

  2. 2

Let the fingers touch lightly and keep the rest of the hand relaxed.

  3. 3

Choose 1 seal for 1 purpose and let it accompany the meditation from the beginning to the end.

Example: Prithvi Mudra with the Foundation Meditation

  1. 1

Sit upright and rest the hands on the thighs in Prithvi Mudra.

  2. 2

Breathe slowly through the nose and relax the body from the head to the feet.

  3. 3

Feel the weight of the body settle into the ground and let the thoughts pass.

  4. 4

To close, release the fingers and rest the palms on the thighs.
