Nostos: Returning Home

author: High Priest Zevios Metathronos

For Those Leaving Christianity & Islam

Roman wall painting: Odysseus, bearded and in a traveller's cloak, sits with a staff before Penelope, who stands veiled at a doorway with her hand raised to her face.

Zevism is the religion of Zeus, Father and King of the Gods, and of the Ancient Gods who serve under Him. Choose your door below and begin your return today.

Zeus has gone by many names over the aeons. Every civilization that kept humanity’s original inheritance honoured one supreme Head God, the Father of Gods and men, ruler of the heavens, wielder of the thunderbolt and upholder of justice, and each called Him by its own word: Dyeus Pater in the Proto-Indo-European tongue, Zeus in Hellas, Indra in the Vedic world, Amun in Egypt, Jupiter in Rome, Marduk in Babylon, Perun among the Slavs, Thor in the North and Shangdi in China. They are one God under many names, and most of those names are older than Judaism, Christianity and Islam by thousands of years. The religions that came later forbade His names and called His family demons.

I. Coming Home to Zeus

You are welcome in the house of Zeus. Zevism is His worship and the worship of the Gods under Him, with a path by which the soul grows toward Them: prayer, study, meditation and a life ordered by truth.

The Temple of Zeus teaches that the God called Deus, Dieu and Dios is Zeus, Father and King of the Gods, whose name those words still carry. The name Allah belongs to another story: Islam took it from the older worship of Arabia, made it exclusive and turned it against the Gods. Coming home means returning to Zeus, the Original God, by His own name and with His divine family.

Choose the door that fits where you stand.

II. The Olive Tree in the House

Odysseus comes home to Ithaca after years at war and at sea, and Penelope won’t yet believe it is him. She tests the stranger: she tells her nurse to carry the bed out of the bedroom.[1] Odysseus answers that no man could move that bed. He built the bedroom around it:

Homer, Odyssey 23.190 to 191, tr. Samuel Butler (1900) · Read the passage

θάμνος ἔφυ τανύφυλλος ἐλαίης ἕρκεος ἐντός,
ἀκμηνὸς θαλέθων· πάχετος δ’ ἦν ἠΰτε κίων.

There was a young olive growing within the precincts of the house, in full vigour, and about as thick as a bearing-post.

Odysseus and Penelope seated together on a bed in a lamplit chamber, talking, with figures visible in the room behind them.

The bedpost is the living trunk of the olive. By that sign Penelope recognises her husband.[1] Your inheritance is that olive. Later belief built its house around it, and the root was never cut.

III. A Witness for Each Door

Each tradition preserves the older worship in its own scripture.

Aratus, Phaenomena 1 and 5, tr. G. R. Mair (1921) · Read the passage

Ἐκ Διὸς ἀρχώμεσθα …
τοῦ γὰρ καὶ γένος εἰμέν.

From Zeus let us begin … For we are also his offspring.

For Christians. Aratus, who flourished in the early 3rd century BCE, opened his poem on the heavens with these words to Zeus. In Acts, Paul’s speech to the Athenians quotes the line as the words of some of your own poets: Τοῦ γὰρ καὶ γένος ἐσμέν, For we, too, are his offspring.[2][3] Zeus’s offspring in the poem became God’s offspring in the Bible.

Qur’an 29:61, tr. Sahih International · Read the verse

If you asked them, “Who created the heavens and earth and subjected the sun and the moon?” they would surely say, “Allāh.” Then how are they deluded?

For Muslims. The Qur’an records that the very people it argued against named Allah as the creator of the heavens and earth.[4] Sahih Muslim preserves the pilgrimage cry of those polytheists as they circled the Kaaba: لَبَّيْكَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَكَ … إِلاَّ شَرِيكًا هُوَ لَكَ تَمْلِكُهُ وَمَا مَلَكَ, Here I am at Thy service, there is no associate with Thee … But one associate with Thee, you possess mastery over him, but he does not possess mastery (over you).[5] Allah was worshipped as the highest, with a power beneath Him, before Islam made the name exclusive.

IV. What Awaits You

Zevism gives your return to the Gods a daily form.

V. The Questions That Come First

“Does Returning Mean Leaving God?”

No. You are returning to the Father and the Gods.

Homer calls Zeus πατὴρ ἀνδρῶν τε θεῶν τε, father of men and Gods.[6] You come home to the Father by His own name, and to His family.

“Does It Mean Leaving Your Heritage?”

No. You are entering its core.

Deus, Dios and Dieu belong to the same ancient family of divine words as Zeus and Jupiter. Enter the older inheritance and make it part of your life.

“Why Were You Taught to Fear the Gods?”

Because the institutions that replaced Them branded Them evil.

They were labelled demonic, evil and cursed. Even “demon” is a corruption of the Greek δαίμων, a divine spirit or divine intelligence.[7] The fear was taught to you. The Gods never gave it.

“How Do You Begin?”

With Zeus, today.

Speak the Temple’s Prayer to Zeus for Protection, alone and in silence if you wish. It requires no props, no candles and no ceremony.[8] Then follow the 7-day orientation, one short task a day, with no registration and no public declaration.
